The Movement For Black Lives (M4BL) started the People’s Assembly Project to hold People’s Assemblies (PAs) in efforts to show communities how to assert more control of their local government. People’s Assemblies in Atlanta, Chicago, Los Angeles, and across the state of North Carolina were held in partnership with local organizations covering topics such as reparations, city budgeting, community safety, and more.

I was in charge of creating assets for what was effectively a “360 campaign” to promote the PAs across various cities, creating assets for social media, radio, print, and streaming apps.

The Movement for Black Lives (M4BL) formed in December 2014 as a space for Black organizations across the country to create a shared vision, strategy, and policy agenda to win rights, resources, and freedom for Black people.

M4BL continue to expand our work as an ecosystem of Black-led organizations and individuals across the country engaging through our six membership tables, who are committed to our values of Black queer feminism, anti-capitalism, and abolition, and are aligned with our Vision for Black Lives.

Branding

Below is the basic visual style guide created for the People’s Assembly project, which includes some sample graphics for billboards and bus shelter advertisments.

Website Mockup

Upon establishing the basic brand identity for this campaign, I created a single page site mockup for it. This included a hero image with accompanying branding, a map of where the people’s assemblies were happening, and information on what the assemblies are and what they sought to accomplish.

You can view the live website here!

Social Media Graphics

Below are the various social media graphics we created for each location. These were done in collaboration with the local orgs within M4BL’s ecosystem that were in charge of each PA, while keeping consistency across the campaigns.

Videos

Upon completing the social media graphics, we also created 30-second video spots to air on social media platforms, streaming apps, and more. I created the storyboards for each video before sending to our video consultants to complete the vision, managing feedback from our local partners, M4BL staff as well as building out the timeline from ideation to production.
